YOSHI HEIMRATH was born 1983 in munich. He works since 2009 as a Director of Photography for advertising and feature film productions. During his studies at Filmakademie Baden-Würtemberg he received the German Camera Award in 2008 for the short film „Illusion“.
2010 he finished university with the 90 minutes feature film „Shahada“ of  director Burhan Qurbani, which participated in the main competion of the Berlinale Filmfestival. In the same year he also received the First Steps Camera Award for this film.
​The next work and cooperation with director Burhan Qurbani called „We are young, We are strong“ was nominated for best cinematography at the German Film Awards 2015 and was the opening film at Rome International Filmfestival.
For the remake of the well known novel „Berlin Alexanderplatz“ by Alfred Döblin, directed by Burhan Qurbani he received 2020 the German Film Award.
